1st Floor:
The Reference Room
–
The reference room is a good place to start your research. Materials in this area of the library cannot be
checked out, but there are copy machines available for your
use. It is located on the first floor of the Learning
Resource Center and contains the following resources:
The Reference Desk –
Ask a librarian.
They can help
you brainstorm ideas for research, locate sources, determine
the credibility of sources and answer any number of
questions.
Computers with access to databases – The computers located
in the LRC have access to all the databases available to
you. Some of these databases are also available from home –
stop by the reference desk to pick up the login and
password.
Link here for a list of databases.
Subject and General Encyclopedias – These are a great
place to find topics, bibliographies and basic information
about a subject.
list of the subject encyclopedias available in various
disciplines.
Other Reference Materials – You can also find
dictionaries, atlases, archived materials and manuals to
help you cite your resources correctly.
New Books and Current Periodicals – These are located
on the first floor in the T3 Center across from the
Reference Room. Periodicals include scholarly and popular
(back issues are located on the 3rd floor). This is an
excellent place to browse for new ideas, especially if your
topic is current.
2nd Floor:
Circulating Collection – This is where the books that
can be checked out are located. Many of the sources you find
through the
online catalog will be
located here. They are organized using the Library of
Congress Classification System (LC). If you have problems
finding something, just ask a librarian.
Media Center – This is where the video and audio
collection is kept. These materials are located directly
above the circulation desk.
3rd Floor:
Bound Periodicals – This is where back issues of the
periodicals we own in print are located (current ones are on
the 1st floor).
Microfilm and Microfiche – Some of the older texts
you are looking for may only be found in microfiche. Ask a
librarian if you are unfamiliar with how to search/use
these.
Juvenile Collection – These items have the prefix
“JUV” and use a different classification system (A modified
Dewey Decimal System) than the rest of the collection.
Education Curriculum Lab – This collection includes
textbooks and other materials related to education which
cannot be found in the online catalog. The best way to
currently find these materials is to browse. |
